About Us

Who we are?

Established in 2010 with the goal of addressing the wide gender gap in girl’s enrollment in school, especially in the South Nyanza part of the country, Sindo Sustainability Mission has continuously sought ways of improving the lives of girls and women in Kenya. With offices in Sindo, Homabay and Migori its numerous interventions have not only provided access to education for young girls, but also provided them awareness on their reproductive lives, rights, entitlements and responsibility. To achieve this, the organization targets the legislature, religious and traditional leaders as well as communities and institutions.

Sindo Sustainability Mission provides holistic interventions that meet the needs of vulnerable adolescent girls especially those from poor rural areas, disadvantaged and undeserved groups like married adolescent and girls in humanitarian settings. Our specific interventions include Adolescents Reproductive Health & Rights, Female Students Scholarships for vulnerable girls, Advocacy and community mobilization and sensitization on civil rights and responsibilities as well as gender equity. The organization has empowered and promoted girl child education and providing educational support to young people through its Female Students Scholarships Scheme (FSSS), Safe Spaces and life skills development and talent development. Through a comprehensive approach, the process of the scholarship scheme is built in such a way that the girl-child is not only offered formal education but also armed with general life skills, sexuality education and in the process age of marriage is delayed. (Over 20 girls have graduated from secondary school under the scholarship scheme and we have almost 30 presently placed in various girls boarding schools in four counties across the Western region of Kenya)

How Your Donations Help.

“The glamour and joy I see in the eyes of these girl children when I interact with them through this organization gives me the inner peace which gives me the impetus to carry on.

Before she was under this programme, she had some sort of inferiority complex, you could see that she was depressed and didn’t know what was next with her education but now she feels very secure. She mixes so easily with friends in sports, other clubs and academic work. She therefore participates fully.

Sindo Sustainability Mission is very important in our society now because previously the girl child’s position was known to only be in the kitchen but those days are gone. The girl child must forge forward and attain the highest level of education. [One of the SSM girls] is even earning to reach university which we know she will definitely do.”

You will love it!

Some Of The Positive Stories

Seline Charity Nyapara.

School: Kisumu National.

Course: Diploma in Entrepreneurship Education.

My name’s Seline Charity Nyapara studying in Kisumu National Polytechnic I’m taking Entrepreneurship Education at Diploma level.
I got my Sponsorship from Mrs. Beatrice Asyago from the year 2014 throughout my high school at Koru Girls High school. I joined college thereafter whereby she’s still the one paying for my school fees.
It’s been a great great blessing that a young girl’s dream of finishing education is coming true. Thanks to this Foundation SINDO SUSTAINABILITY MISSION for supporting Girls education and the less fortunate!

Dorcas Atieno Onyiego.

School: Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC).

Course: Diploma in health: Nursing

I’m Dorcas Atieno Onyiego, I grew up as the second last child in a family of six girls. Our late parents raised us in a small village called Nyakiya in Ruma Kaksingri East Ward, Homa Bay County. Being an orphan, I was forced to join Onywera Primary School in class 5 right from a private primary school (Fortune Academy) which my parents enrolled me while still alive.
There were so many challenges back at home—this encouraged me to put extra effort into my studies and excel in all of my subjects (emerging the best girl in terms of performance in our location) as well as hobbies to secure a chance at Koru Girls High School. My hope in joining high school education was ruined by lack of school fees till I was linked to my favourite mentor, Mrs. Beatrice Asyago, who happens to give me a second chance through self-sponsoring my education until I completed my high school successfully.
Still, I topped my class, although I narrowly missed the cut-off point to join the public university. Looking back, I think that I did not try as hard enough to convince my sponsor to continue supporting my education.
Then when it was time for college, I purpose to join Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) in Kisumu that was far from my home instead of the university which I really aspired to join. I made this choice since I desired to pursue health- related courses, especially nursing, which I’m now pursuing.
Throughout my college life, I’ve been actively involved in a lot of extra-curricular activities within the college. I hope to complete my college successfully to be able to support and inspire someone in the future once I get a chance to work. I also wish to seize this opportunity to appreciate my sponsor/mentor who believed in me and gave me this special chance, were it not for her I don’t not where I would be now. Thank you so much!!

THE STORY IN KENYA

BEFORE HER 18TH BIRTHDAY, ONE IN EVERY FOUR GIRLS IN KENYA IS ALREADY MARRIED.
In many parts of Kenya, before girls are married, they are supposed to undergo “female circumcision,” otherwise known as female genital mutilation. This dangerous procedure can lead to immediate infections and can later cause problems with childbirth.

Early marriage means that the girls are more likely to become HIV positive. A study in one region of Kenya showed that 33% of married girls were HIV positive, compared to 22% of sexually active unmarried girls.
